The People’s Development Foundation is designed to collect and analyze data, generate innovative development ideas, and create employment opportunities for young people across Sierra Leone, the event brought together a wide array of stakeholders, including Paramount Chiefs from all 14 chiefdoms in Kono District, senior district officers, political party representatives, district councilors, and community leaders demonstrating broad support and a shared commitment to community-led development.

In his welcome address, PC Saa Edward Mbawa, Chairman of the Council of Paramount Chiefs in Kono District, praised the foundation’s vision and pledged the chiefs’ support, we believe in the mission of the People’s Development Foundation,” he said, as traditional leaders, we are committed to working hand in hand to ensure that this initiative reaches every corner of our chiefdoms.

Sahr Augustine Sheku, Chairman of the Kono District Council, also endorsed the foundation’s focus on strengthening local governance at the chiefdom and sectional levels. He noted that the Council had already laid much of the groundwork for this kind of initiative, since assuming office, we’ve prioritized rebuilding governance structures at the grassroots, this aligns perfectly with the foundation’s core objective to empower villages, sections, and chiefdoms to drive their own development, he said.

Using his home chiefdom of Sanda Tendaren in the Karene District as a case study, Alpha Osman Timbo Esq. underscored the importance of organized governance and accurate data collection. He emphasized the roles of Paramount Chiefs, Chiefdom Secretaries, and Section Secretaries in maintaining up-to-date records of community activities, development cannot be random it must be guided by real-time, accurate data on people, places, and needs, he said.

The launch of the People’s Development Foundation Sierra Leone in Kono represents a meaningful step toward decentralized, data-driven development and community empowerment.
