It was an exciting and productive Thursday afternoon as the ministry of sports and youth in Qatar graciously hosted Sierra Leone’s minister of sports, Hon. Augusta Teima, at the Ministry Tower, the high-level diplomatic engagement was marked by warm hospitality, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to advancing sports development.
The visit highlighted growing ties between the two nations, with discussions centered on fostering collaboration in the areas of sports infrastructure, capacity building, and youth empowerment, during the meeting, I had the privilege of delivering a presentation on Sierra Leone’s sports ecosystem, outlining both our challenges and our vision for a stronger, more inclusive sports sector.
A significant outcome of the visit was the pledge made by Mr. Ahmed Al Jamal, Under Secretary of Qatar’s Ministry of Sports and Youth, who committed to supporting Sierra Leone through technical assistance and sports exchange programs, drawing from Qatar’s transformative experience hosting the FIFA World Cup, Mr. Al Jamal emphasized Qatar’s readiness to share knowledge and expertise that could bolster Sierra Leone’s sports infrastructure and institutional capacity.
The diplomatic exchange concluded on a symbolic note with the exchange of gifts, including a beautifully woven traditional cloth from Sierra Leone an emblem of our rich culture and enduring friendship.
This visit marks a meaningful step forward in building international partnerships that empower athletes, inspire youth, and strengthen Sierra Leone’s presence on the global sports stage. Together, Sierra Leone and Qatar are laying the foundation for a brighter and more collaborative future in sports development.
