NASSIT DG Call

The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust, (NASSIT), Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, has called for strong leadership and collaboration among Social Security administrators around the world.
Mr Daboh made this clarion call while sharing the Sierra Leone experience during a three-day Global Conference on Management and Innovation in Social Security organised by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and hosted by the National Organisation for Social Insurance in Egypt from the 11th to the 13th of February 2025.

He highlighted the enormous success NASSIT had made since he was appointed Director General by His Excellency Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio, especially in the areas of operations and benefits processing.

The Director General acknowledged the fact that leaders of social security organisations face huge challenges, including ensuring that their institutions are well-structured and ready to deliver reliable services while standing ready to respond quickly in an environment of continuous change.

He noted that social protection programmes require new approaches in their operations as customers need quick and accurate access to information and services.
Mr. Daboh spoke at length about his vision for the NASSIT scheme and the moves made so far to extend coverage to the informal sector of the economy of Sierra Leone.

“As I speak, high-level meetings and consultations are taking place to design a very attractive scheme for our brothers and sisters in the informal economy whose contributions are in no small measure to the national development of the country”, he affirmed.

The Director General also informed his audience about the information, communication and technology (ICT) transformation of NASSIT, which will make it easier for people, especially members, to access the scheme. “In all of this”, he stated, “effective management plays a pivotal role” and called for stronger and effective collaboration and leadership in social security institutions.
The conference, which was attended by over 400 participants, drew senior leaders of social security institutions, experts from international organisations, policymakers and managers seeking to expand their knowledge. It provided a unique opportunity for leaders to network with their colleagues facing similar challenges.

One of the key takeaways from the conference was the realisation that the capacities of social security institutions like NASSIT are undergoing fundamental changes; their workforce is evolving, and digital technology continues to trigger organisational transformations. Additionally, the capacity for innovation has become a vital ingredient for the performance of social security institutions, and leadership is evolving towards ensuring the pursuit of excellence through change management, innovation and human resources.
