The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has officially welcomed its new Board Chairman, Mr. Joe Jonathan Ndanema, as the outgoing Chairman, Alhaji Ing. Mohamed Alie Jalloh, formally handed over the reins of leadership. The handover ceremony marked a significant transition for the organization as it continues its mission of providing safe and reliable water services across Sierra Leone.
The event, which was held on Monday December 23rd, 2024 at the SALWACO Board room, commenced with an introduction of the outgoing and incoming chairpersons alongside other members of the Board of Directors.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Managing Director, Dr. Albert H. Harvey, commended the Board members for their dedication and extended gratitude to the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Hannah Isata Sao-Kpato Max-Kyne, for her unwavering commitment to transforming the water sector.
Dr. Harvey praised the harmonious relationship SALWACO has enjoyed with its Board and expressed optimism about working under the leadership of the new chairman. He reiterated SALWACO’s commitment to fostering teamwork and delivering on its mandate.
Board members took turns reflecting on their experiences, expressing gratitude to the outgoing Chairman for his leadership and acknowledging the collective efforts of the SALWACO team. They also pledged their support to the incoming Chairman, who they believe will bring renewed vigor and direction to the company.
In his farewell address, outgoing Chairman Alhaji Ing. Mohamed Alie Jalloh appreciated the Board and SALWACO staff for their support during his tenure. He highlighted his positive experiences with the company and expressed confidence in the incoming leadership to continue driving progress, whiles touching on the numerous gains that were achieved during his tenure.
The new Board Chairman, Mr. Joe Jonathan Ndanema, expressed profound gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for entrusting him with this responsibility. He pledged to align with SALWACO’s strategic plan, emphasizing that his leadership would prioritize delivering on the government’s goals, including ensuring 70% of Sierra Leoneans have access to safe drinking water.
Mr. Ndanema also highlighted his focus on water for irrigation as part of the “Feed Salone” initiative, calling on the SALWACO team to align with this vision. “Together, with the guidance of the Minister and the support of this team, we will achieve remarkable progress,” he affirmed.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Hannah Isata Sao-Kpato Max-Kyne, lauded SALWACO as a supportive and goal-oriented institution. She praised the outgoing Chairman for his diligent leadership and described the incoming Chairman as a seasoned professional with extensive experience in development.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to work collaboratively towards achieving SALWACO’s mission of enhancing access to clean and safe water across Sierra Leone.
