As part of their commitment to improving human capital development in Freetown and Sierra Leone at large, Freetown City Council (FCC) in partnership with Emerging Leaders UK has capacitated young people in Freetown with leadership training. The impactful three-day Leadership for Life training program runs from the 29th, 30th and 31st October, 2024 at the Freetown city council hall.
According to the Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Mayor of Freetown City Council, the two hundred and fifteen (215) youth both men and women participants were selected from the city’s markets, universities and local communities ensuring wide representation and access to youth and women with varying levels of formal education.
The training which covered “Personal Leadership, Managing Your Money, and Managing Small Projects”, will help participants make better life decisions and increase their capacity to run their own businesses or gain employment.
“Last week’s Leadership for Life training program was a practical intervention that supports delivery of our Transform Freetown – Transforming Lives target to create 120,000 decent jobs for women and youth by 2028,” the mayor underscored, add FCC will continue to facilitate the delivery of soft and hard skills training for young people in the country and that in the coming months and years they will work together to achieve more job creation target.
The government of President Maada Bio is championing the Big five game changers among which is the creation of five hundred thousand (500,000) jobs and improve human capital development among others.
Although, the Mayor is a member of the main opposition, this training underscores the need to supporting the government its developmental agenda of the African country.
