Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, launched a series of nationwide consultations on police reform in Port Loko, Northwest Region, on Friday, October 10, 2025. The initiative aims to transform the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) from a traditional force into a service-oriented institution, emphasizing community policing, professionalism, strengthened partnerships, and an improved internal policing culture.
Speaking at a high-level stakeholder dialogue, Vice President Jalloh described the event as “the first in a series of public education engagements” designed to reshape the SLP’s role in society. He outlined the government’s vision, stating, “We are committed to building a police service centered on community-oriented policing, fostering professionalism, forging robust partnerships, and enhancing the internal culture of the force.”
The Vice President expressed enthusiasm about the public’s response, noting, “I was deeply impressed by the overwhelming interest from stakeholders and the community. The massive turnout signals a strong public desire to actively participate in redefining the role of our police.”
This reform effort aligns with ongoing initiatives by the SLP to modernize its operations, enhance accountability, and rebuild public trust. The Port Loko consultation marks a critical step toward inclusive, community-driven policing that prioritizes collaboration and transparency, setting the stage for further engagements across the country.
