Community Collaboration Across Chiefdoms Leads to Swift Arrest of Homicide Suspect in Kenema District

By Aminata Abu Bakarr Kamara

In a powerful demonstration of community-police partnership, residents of Wandor and Goramende chiefdoms have played a pivotal role in the arrest of a homicide suspect following the tragic death of an elderly man in Kamboma village.

Abu Kamando, a resident of Madina village in Wandor chiefdom, is currently in police custody on suspicion of murdering his uncle, Bundu Kamando, at a cocoa plantation on June 28, 2025, the victim, a well-known figure in Kamboma village, suffered multiple lacerations in what is being described as a brutal attack.

According to inspector Prince Bernard Jaygboi Kamara, officer in charge of the Baama Police Post, the case was first reported by Town speaker chief Musa Baio. upon receiving the report, Inspector Kamara immediately dispatched his crime officer, detective police constable (D/PC) 14450 Mansaray D.L., and his operations Officer, PC 13799 Abdularam Kpangay, to investigate the scene.

With support from the paramount chief of Wandor chiefdom, PC Hary Sao Bojon Fangawa, and local authorities, our team was able to quickly access and secure the crime scene, inspector Kamara stated.

The crime officer conducted a professional assessment of the area and arranged for the transportation of the deceased, whose body was already decomposing due to the severity and number of wounds sustained, the remains were released to the family for burial, with the grave marked for possible exhumation should an autopsy be required.

Following the incident, the suspect went into hiding, however, thanks to an extraordinary level of community cooperation and timely intelligence from residents, police were able to track and apprehend Abu Kamando in Mondema Town, Goramende Chiefdom, without resistance.

Inspector Kamara commended the paramount chief of Wandor chiefdom, community stakeholders, and community safety Volunteers (CSVs) from both chiefdoms for their dedication and swift assistance in the manhunt.

The level of collaboration shown was unprecedented, said inspector Kamara, it highlights the importance of community engagement in policing, without their support, this arrest would have been significantly delayed.

The suspect is now in custody as investigations continue; the local unit Commander of Kenema division, chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Alphonso Ambulai Fambulleh, popularly known as Correct Man, has been fully briefed on the case, authorities confirm that additional updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.

This case stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when law enforcement and local communities work hand in hand to uphold justice and security.
