The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) on Friday, September 20th, 2024, announced the impoundment of an aircraft with four Europeans at the Freetown International Airport.
According to a released signed by SLCAA’s Director General, Musayeroh Barrie, the impoundment followed after an unauthorized aircraft landed at the airport at the late hours of Thursday, September 19th, 2024; all four persons onboard the said aircraft have been arrested and are helping the state security with the investigation.
“At 11:54pm on the 19th of September 2024, a private non-scheduled aircraft landed at Freetown International Airport (FNA) without an approved landing permit,” Director Barrie said, adding that SLCAA and inspectors from the Directorate of Flight Safety Standards and Aviation Security were present to assist with the initial questioning of the passengers.
The country’s aviation agency noted that the arrest of the passengers underscored its commitment to stop any illegal aircraft landing in the country.
It could be recalled that early this year there was a report of an aircraft that landed in the country without landing permit due to technical failure.
Madam Musayeroh Barrie, Director General of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority, assured the public of the authority’s unwavering commitment to the safety and security of the civil aviation space of the country.
