In a transformative move to promote digital inclusion and youth empowerment, the Edutainers Klub has launched a free Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training program targeting young people and underserved groups in the Fourah Bay community. On the 5 October, 2025.
The official launch, held on Sunday at the Fourah Bay Community Learning Centre on Scotland Street, attracted a large audience, including students, teachers, community leaders, and representatives of the private sector. The event was held under the theme “Empowering the Future Through Digital Access, Innovation, and Inclusion.”
Chairing the ceremony, Ambassador Mohammed Basiru Sanusi reflected on the Klub’s long-standing contributions to youth development through education, innovation, and employment initiatives. He reaffirmed the organization’s mission to use technology as a bridge to opportunity, particularly for communities often left behind in the digital economy.
Project Coordinator, Civ. Sulaiman Santos Kamara (Amsure), outlined the main objectives of the program, which include free computer literacy training, internet access, and advanced digital skills development. He emphasized that the initiative seeks to close the digital gap by empowering youth with the knowledge and confidence to thrive in a technology-driven world.
“This is about creating opportunities for young people to compete on a global stage,” Kamara explained. “Digital skills are no longer optional—they are essential.”
The program’s funding partners include Elderodo Resources Company (SL) Ltd., Gold Lion Mining Company (SL) Ltd., Leoco SL Ltd., and Harding Study. Representatives from these organizations praised the initiative for its forward-thinking approach and pledged continued support for community development projects.
Madam Theresa George, speaking on behalf of the sponsors, described the partnership as “a vital step toward sustainable development and job creation.”
“This project is not just about learning how to use a computer,” added Mr. Bangura, another sponsor representative. “It’s about opening doors to education, employment, and global opportunities that many young people in Fourah Bay have been excluded from.”
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the President and Executive of the Edutainers Klub, Civ. Yusuf Egbeyemi Cole expressed gratitude to community leaders, sponsors, and volunteers who made the project possible.
This is more than a training program it marks the beginning of a digital revolution in Fourah Bay,” said Cole. Access to ICT is a right, not a privilege. We want to ensure no one is left behind in this digital age.
Representing the Fourah Bay Foundation and the Fourah Bay Community Learning Centre, Deputy Director Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai Kamara commended the Klub for its consistency in promoting education and community development. He recalled previous ICT initiatives introduced by the Foundation, including digital literacy training for pupils of Sulaimania Primary School, and praised the Edutainers Klub for building upon that foundation.
The event concluded with a call for continued collaboration among the public, private, and community sectors to sustain the momentum of digital education in Sierra Leone. As participants registered for the first round of classes, the sense of optimism in the room was unmistakable a community once on the margins of the digital world is now stepping boldly into the future.
